You can even get the specular to be much smaller and sharp or large and diffused. May seem like a small thing but it makes a big difference!

Beta: GenArts, Inc. Announces the Public Beta for Sapphire 8

Cambridge, MA – November 20, 2014 – GenArts, Inc. is excited to announce the release of the Sapphire 8 public beta. The public beta allows everyone — both new and current Sapphire users — to experience version 8 before its mid-December release.

New Features and Effects

Sapphire 8 includes new and updated effects on all supported hosts, including:

  • Grunge
  • LightLeak
  • DigitalDamage
  • Shake: Now twitches, jumps, and splits colors

Builder, the biggest addition to Sapphire 8, gives users the ability to create their own effects and transitions in a new, node-based workspace, and lets users browse presets in new ways for unprecedented creativity and efficiency.

Gary Oberbrunner, GenArts’ Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, says he’s excited about the possibilities for Sapphire Builder: “The Sapphire effects engine has always had tremendous power, and with Builder we’ve given users almost unlimited access to that power. I can’t wait to see what kinds of amazing and beautiful results they’ll come up with!”

Currently, Builder is only available for After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Media Composer.

Availability and Price

The Sapphire 8 public beta can be downloaded from the GenArts website free of charge for everyone, starting today.

Sapphire 8 is available for most leading editing and compositing systems: Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, Autodesk Flame and Smoke, NUKE, DaVinci Resolve, and other OFX-compatible hosts.

Free Animamorphic Lens Plug-in

According to Wikipedia, “Anamorphic format refers to the cinematography technique of shooting a widescreen picture on standard 35 mm film or other visual recording media with a non-widescreen native aspect ratio.” [wikipedia.org: Anamorphic Format]

VashiVisuals has created a After Effects plug-in, VashiMorphic, that simulates the look of an 40mm Anamorphic lens and they’re giving it away for free.
