Yesterday I had a Conversation with David Torno and Brandon Parvini about Flight of the Conchords’ ‘Ladies of the World’ video they just completed.
It’s incredibly funny and has a cool 70s style to it. They rotoscoped the faces of The Conchords onto stunt skaters. They talk about the challenges they had with the project and how they used lots of digital tools to make this really impressive video.
Ross Shain, Vice President, Sales & Product Specialist at Imagineer Systems, walks you through how to use mocha AE, a state-of-the-art planar tracker, with Adobe After Effects.

Hey! Just wanted to say hallo. My name is Jerzy Drozda Jr, but you may also know me as Maltaannon. From this day forward I’ll be also posting at AEFreemart. Today I want to present you this brand new tutorial on a subject as old as digital post-production itself. You will learn how to work with poor quality footage to pull out a decent chroma key.
Please note that this tutorial uses Key Correct Pro - a set of plugins from Red Giant Software designed to help you with your everyday chroma keying.
I’d also like to point out that our host - Michele Yamazaki - is currently working on a book that focuses on keying in detail. Make sure to have an eye out for “GreenScreen Made Easy: Keying and Compositing Techniques for Indie Filmmakers”
I hope you will enjoy the tutorial.

The Creative Suite Podcast has a new one up: Mixing different video formats in Premiere Pro CS3.
Check out the newest tutorial from Maltaannon.com, the Text Ramp. It doesn’t look like much, but it overcomes a huge problem with Ramps in After Effects. It shows how to build a preset that solves the problem with Ramp effect applied to text layers. After applying the preset, the ramp effect will follow the layers position. Normally you have to reposition everything each time you make a change to the text position, which is a huge annoyance.
What is the oldest text animation effect in film history? You guessed right: the credit roll. Traditionally, a long page of text is rolled from the bottom of the screen revealing line after line. In the early days of cinematography, a paper print was physically rolled before the film camera to produce this effect. Hence the name: Credit Roll.
A complete set of tools for creating credit rolls is included with Boris Graffiti, Boris RED, and Boris Blue. The same functionality is available in Boris Calligraphy which is bundled with Apple Final Cut Pro and Apple Final Cut Express and Boris Title Toolkit which is available for Adobe After Effects.
