Nice to see Nick Campbell taking a break from Cinema 4D and getting back to After Effects. This tutorial will show you how use AE’s built-in effect Motion Sketch to write your name using Trapcode Particular. Nick also made a Particular Preset which he uses in the tut; and you can get that for free at RedGiantPeople.com.
Peder Norrby, creator of all that is Trapcode, posted a free project yesterday called Starlings Study 01. The project uses Trapcode Particular and simulates the flocking pattern of birds using only turbulence. This isn’t a typical use of Particular and it might make you wonder what else you could accomplish by fiddling with the settings in unusual ways. Roman Komurka has released a new After Effects tutorial in Aetuts+. With this step by step tutorial you’ll learn a cool way to make 3D text with a nice transition using Trapcode particular 2.

Now that I’ve spread the love a little bit, I will introduce myself. My name is Cameron King. I love After Effects and all the things it brings to the storytelling process. Harry Frank has a video up at Studio Daily about Using expressions to speed up lower third creation in After Effects. He explains how to create a document that links to the text document with corresponding scene numbers… a very cool way to speed up simple but tedious work. It’s not difficult, but this is definitely not something you’d figure out yourself, unless you’re a javascript programmer, or a whiz with expressions.
