Adobe CS5 Cleaner Tool for installation problems (removes CS3-CS5.5) + Moving Plug-ins

With Adobe CS6 out in just a few days, this tool will remove older versions of Adobe software from your system. Sure you could just trash everything but software these days leaves little bits and pieces of code all over your system. This tool will remove all the pieces from your system.

Why do you want to remove CS5.5 and earlier?

To avoid system & software conflicts
To free up space

Yes, there are reasons you may not want to uninstall older versions of After Effects, for example, your clients have not upgraded. You can of course try running both on your system, but this script is here in case of problems.

Note: The first item under “Before you start”: Back up all files stored in Adobe product directories, including custom plug-ins or profiles you have installed.

Here are a couple of tutorials for moving your CS5 plug-ins to CS5.5. The same method applies to CS6. I’m suggesting that you back up your plugins and the video explains the locations where your plug-ins might be:

Also, back up presets!

Because many plug-ins will not be ready by May 7 with installers for Adobe CS6, it does not mean they will not work. Follow the same procedure in the video for moving your plug-ins to CS6. Not everything will work, but you will be surprised at how many will function just fine. This will save you a lot of time re-installing as well. The videos are about making aliases but we are suggesting that you move them, since you’d be deleting older instances of After Effects anyway.

Note: If you do not remove older versions of After Effects from your system and have multiple instances of the plug-ins on your system, you will likely get some errors. It will probably work fine but you’ll find yourself clicking through an endless series of popup windows telling you you have duplicates.

Newton will bring physics engine to After Effects

We normally only post tutorials here but this is big news. Motion Boutique will shortly (weeks) be releasing a new plug-in for After Effects called Newton. This will effectively add a physics engine to After Effects. ‘Bout time!

New AE plug-in generates hexagon textures

Andrew Yang has made a new Pixel Bender plugin for After Effects called YY Hex Tex and all it does is make hexagons. That may seem like a very limited feature set but when you need hexagons, this is your plug-in! As it says on the plug-in’s aescripts.com page, it’s great for motion graphics and HUD designs. You can set and animate the effect’s anchor point (creating up and down or side to side motion), the size of the hexagons, the thickness of the border around them, angle, color, etc. You can also invert the alpha so you’re left with just the hexagons themselves, or their border. Very nice. No, it’s not free, but you can name your own price. Click here to check it out.

Stefan Minning has released a version for CS5 of his useful free plugin Normality. This plugin is a re-lighting filter for After Effects. If you don’t know about it, you should catch up it, It’s great.

Yanobox plug-ins for After Effects

I’ve found this two cool plug-ins for After Effects and they have impressed me a lot.

Yanobox has created two plug-ins: Nodes and Motype.

With Nodes you can animate objects and relationships through Nodes and Lines, with a cool and smooth look. Instead, Motype let you animate a text with a revolutionary way. The only bad thing?, It’s only for Mac users. I Hope some day will be able to multi-platform.

UPDATE: Data Glitch plug-in has been released, enter to Aescripts for more infromation.

Satya Meka has release a new plug-in. Data Glitch will allow us to create realistic glitches to our footage fast and easy. Also this script is going to be completely expressionable, this will give us more freedom and nice final effect for our video.

So If you want to simulate that you’re recording something from the space or making a live stream from north pole, this is your plug-in!
