Digital Anarchy ToonIt! Beta for owners of ToonIt

Published by Michele Yamazaki on February 11th, 2008 - in After Effects, Digital Anarchy, Final Cut Pro, FxPlug, Motion

toonit!Digital Anarchy ToonIt! was one of the products I tried to demo at NAB last year when I worked at the Apple Booth demoing FxPlug Plug-ins. Unfortunately, I won’t be at the Apple Booth this year because, sadly, Apple has pulled out of NAB. I’m hoping that they will change their mind and there is just some sort of negotiation going on. Apple would be sorely missed at NAB.

I digress… Digital Anarchy ToonIt is such a cool plug-in. It looks fabulous. The one big drawback is that the screen redraw and render times are painful. When I tried to demo it at the booth at NAB, it was very difficult. Apple liked to have something on screen moving at all times so when you’re rendering an 8 second clip for a half hour, it kills the mood. I ended up rendering a clip and playing the render. The Ducati footage from Apple paired with ToonIt was nothing short of knock-your-socks-off impressive.

Well, the long wait (and long render times) is over. Digital Anarchy finally have a multi-processor aware version of ToonIt available only to those of you who own it. To get it, please send your name, platform, host application(s), and serial number to beta@digitalanarchy.com. You MUST have already purchased it (the AE/FCP compatible version) to receive the beta. This will be a free update to owners of ToonIt.

Digital Rebellion Tools

Published by Michele Yamazaki on February 5th, 2008 - in Apple, Final Cut Pro, Free, Motion

I recommend checking out Digital Rebellion Tools. They have a Video Footage Calculator that will tell you how much space you need to compress a certain amount of footage at a certain frame rate and codec. They have a Film Rate Calculator, an Aspect Ration Calculator and a Depth of Field Calculator.

They also have a Final Cut Studio remover app for older versions of FCS. Cool stuff.

Chicago Motion Graphics Festival 2008

I hope you can all make it to the Chicago Motion Graphics Festival 2008 in mid-January. Harry and I are both teaching classes. We’re tag-teaming on an AE class, Harry will be teaching a second full day class and I’m teaching a full day class for Apple Motion. Register online now!

The festival is loads of fun and if you’re from the south, chances are you’ll get to experience a real Chicago winter. Yeah, enticing. ;-) It’s a really well organized festival and so worth the trip. If you’re already in Chicago, I hope to see you there.

Free Final Cut Pro Plug-ins from CHV

Published by Michele Yamazaki on August 22nd, 2007 - in Final Cut Pro, Motion, Plug-ins

CHV puts out amazing, quality plug-ins for Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express and Motion.

  • Towers of Film 3D – A free FxPlug plugin by CHV-electronics
Towers of Film 3D builds a virtual 3D city. While you have full control over the camera you can fly through and over the city like in a 3D game. Up to 10 different video clips can be mapped at the buildings in various ways. Because it’s FxPlug, it works in both FCP and Motion.
  • Silk and Fog V4.0 – A free plugin for Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express! Silk and Fog V4.0 applies five different effects to your video. The most prominent effect is the Silk-effect. This filter is most useful for your wedding-video! It’s FxScript, so it doesn’t run in Motion.
  • iSilhouetteiSilhouette is a video filter that colorizes the silhouette of an object. You can define up to 4 colors that iSilhouette will add up and use for the creation of a shape. The shape and the surrounding areas will be colorized by two defineable colors. Additionally the borders of the shape can be colorized. Again, FxScript, so it works in FCP/FCE

Peter Wiggins free templates for Apple Motion

Published by Michele Yamazaki on April 6th, 2007 - in Final Cut Pro, FxPlug, Motion, Noise Industries

Peter Wiggins Motion Templates are a lovely set up templates for, you guessed it, Apple Motion. Glass Pane CSI Style, Radar Template, Star Wars Template, Animating Dollar Motion Element, Filmstrip Template and Broadcast Clock Template.

I thought the name Peter Wiggins sounded familiar and he’s the guy behind iDustrial Revolution’s Volumetrix, a wicked cool light spill FxPlug Plug-in for Final Cut Pro and Motion and designed with FxFactory from Noise Industries.
