Keying out bad footage
Click here to watch the tutorial.
Hey! Just wanted to say hallo. My name is Jerzy Drozda Jr, but you may also know me as Maltaannon. From this day forward I’ll be also posting at AEFreemart. Today I want to present you this brand new tutorial on a subject as old as digital post-production itself. You will learn how to work with poor quality footage to pull out a decent chroma key.
Please note that this tutorial uses Key Correct Pro – a set of plugins from Red Giant Software designed to help you with your everyday chroma keying.
I’d also like to point out that our host – Michele Yamazaki – is currently working on a book that focuses on keying in detail. Make sure to have an eye out for “GreenScreen Made Easy: Keying and Compositing Techniques for Indie Filmmakers”
I hope you will enjoy the tutorial.
Water Color Mask
This is a 1280×720 mask done with water color brushes. It’s handy to keep these things around for texture, video mattes, etc. I created this for a “lounge” that has a name that suggests vibrant color (can you tell I have an NDA on this job?) and had some vibrant ink colors spill on to the screen. I used Andrew Kramer’s awesome Riot Gear to create an ink bleed transition for it.
Photoshop Masks 2

I made up a few more masks for use in Photoshop, AE, etc. They work well independently, but also look cool if you mix them together. They are 800×600 in Photoshop layers. Also, check out the previous set I made a while back.
Talk bubble shape
Hope you had a good weekend and didn’t overheat. Damn, it’s hot in heere.
This is a simple and useful talk bubble shape with a little bevel. It’s pretty cartooney but you can scale it to fit your image, flip it, whatever you need.
Free Photoshop Masks
You can never have too many masks on hand. Here are six masks of differing styles in one Photoshop file. The file has both the raw mask image, as well as a version with layers set up to be masked. The dimensions are 800×600.

Shapes: No Symbol
The universal symbol for ‘No’ is just a circle with a diagonal line running through it from the upper left to the lower right. You put this over anything that is not permitted… like ‘No Smoking’ or ‘No Entry’.
This shape should be applied to any color of full screen layer. It will automatically fill with red, bevel the alpha and add a drop shadow. Scale as needed.
Download the ‘No’ Symbol’ FFX file (zipped).
To install: Drop it into your Presets folder in your Adobe After Effects application folder. Refresh your Effects and Presets list if needed, by choosing ‘Refresh List’ in the flyout menu on the Effects and Presets palette.
