Tutorial: Create Glow Effects Using the Boris Glow Filters

Published by Michele Yamazaki on February 26th, 2008 - in After Effects, Avid, Boris, Continuum Complete

There are several Boris Continuum Complete (BCC) filters that were designed to produce the glow effect that is very popular for sports broadcast and commercial spots. In this new tutorial, we will use BCC 5 AE in Adobe After Effects CS3 to give you an overview of the BCC Glow, BCC Colorize Glow, and BCC Glow Alpha Edges filters. These same filters are available for Avid and Apple Final Cut Pro editors with a similar workflow using BCC 5 AVX and BCC 5 FxPlug. In addition, the glow filters are included with RED 4.2, Boris FX 9.2, and Graffiti 5.2.

Boris Key
From Boris FX:

In this week’s tutorial, we illustrate how to create a green screen effect using the BCC Chroma Key filter. BCC Chroma Key is used for compositing camera footage shot using a blue, green, or orange screen as a backdrop over a new background video or a still image from a separate file. BCC Chroma Key and other keying and matte filters are included as part of Boris FX 9.1, Boris RED 4.1, and Boris Continuum Complete 5.

Tutorial: Using BCC Filters to Generate a News Show Opener – Part 2

Published by Michele Yamazaki on September 27th, 2007 - in Adobe, After Effects, Boris, Continuum Complete, Tutorial

In a recent tutorial, Boris took a still image file of a world map, and used BCC LED to transform it into a wall of blinking LED lights. Then, they used BCC DVE to spin the image 50 degrees along the Y axis to place it at an angle to the viewer. To continue the effect, they’ll take the same image and add a particle filter to make the lights appear as though they are being sprayed onto the wall, creating a blinking and glowing LED map over time.

Tutorial: Using the Boris Film Process Filter to "Filmize" Digital Video

Published by Michele Yamazaki on June 19th, 2007 - in After Effects, Boris, Boris Red, Continuum Complete, Preset, Tutorial

Film ProcessBoris has a cool After Effects tutorial for BCC Film Process, which is included with Boris RED 4.1 and Boris Continuum Complete 4.1.

BCC Film Process can help "filmize" digital video by deepening the color response range of the digital image to emulate film’s dynamic color range. It can also be used to color grade and mimic an infinite variety of analog lens filters, optical processes, and special effects. These capabilities allow for the broader aesthetic and creative palette that filmed imagery offers – but without the higher cost of 35mm film production.

borisThe new Film Process Tutorial includes seven new presets designed to emulate real-world Hollywood film productions. These never-before-seen presets are available exclusively with this tutorial and are compatible with Boris Continuum Complete 4.1 and Boris RED 4.1.

Easter Egg in AE

Published by Michele Yamazaki on April 6th, 2007 - in After Effects, Boris, Continuum Complete, Cycore FX, Project

eggHere’s a quick project on how to make a 3D egg in After Effects. I used the Sphere plug-in in Boris Continuum Complete, but the Sphere tool in Cycore FX would work just as well. I just didn’t have it installed at the moment.

Anywhoo, this project uses BCC Sphere and the regular AE plug-in known as Transform to make the orb more oblong, or egg shaped.

BCC Z-Blur emulates a rack focus effect where the focal plane moves between a near and far plane. The near and far planes in the filter define the area of the image along the Z axis that is blurred. The area between the planes remains sharp. With the BCC Z-Blur filter, you can set a channel from the image clip, and then use that channel to control the racking focus blur.
