After Effects FCP X Tutorial

Tilt-Shift or Miniaturization Effects in After Effects and Final Cut Pro

Tilt Shift is one of the most fun and simple effects you can use to make it look like everything is tiny. Tilt-shift makes your video and images look miniature, like toys. The trick I generally use is to keep a narrow cross-section of your shot in tight focus and then increase the saturation. This is made a bit more difficult if your footage is already shot but there are some ways to fake it.

First, we will talk about Tilt-Shift After Effects.

Tilt-shift Blur Tool For After Effects

Nol Honig has a free Tilt-Shift Blur Tool that you can download from Gumroad. It’s essentially a project file that uses the built-in blur tools in After Effects, with a good amount of UI controls for changing the blur parameters. It’s pretty useful! (Via Lester Banks)

After Effects Video Tutorial: Tilt-Shift Effect

Mikey Borup has an older tutorial up at Premium Beat that is helpful, although the video no longer exists. I’m sure it exists somewhere, just not on Vimeo! The text tutorial is still there though. In this project, they use Posterize time, Camera Lens Blur, CC Light Sweep and Fast Blur to create the effect.

They have a tutorial explaining how to use them and also have a link to download a few.  Honestly, they may be a bit too busy for a cinematic title. However, it’s worth throwing it out there! If anything, they’re a lot of fun. For example, we have this one:
