Stemming from a mograph.net discussion, here is a cool little technique to create an organic interaction between two or more objects. This uses a Blur and Level crush (a technique I remember from years ago to clean up awful logos that were FAXed or pulled from the web). Placing these effects on an Adjustment Layer above the objects results in a cool little cellular sort of motion.
Check out the project not here.. or here.. but HERE.

Thanks so much Harry and Michele for putting these little projects online, I find great new techniques by disecting your work.
I just had a question about this project, I tried reproducing what you had done, creating two solids animating one, adding an adjustment layer and then the effects but it just doesn’t seem to work.
In your comp everything works great also when I copy and paste your adjustment layer over my solids it also works, I am obviously doing something wrong with my adjustment layer.
Just one question before I go back and try to nut out my mistake, other than the gaussian blur effect which obviously needs a value the levels effect seems to just have the default values, is this true?
I know this is probably really easy to fix…..I will have another look at your comp.
Thanks again M
Actually, the Levels effect is not at all at the default. Where is says “Channel:”, select Alpha.
You’ll see that the Alpha channel is WAY squished together.
Give that a try.
